Carly Phillips shows just how powerful an asset metaphors can be in her latest novel Dare to Take. Using metaphoric storytelling she stimulates the mind of the reader and gives them a central image to compare Tyler and Ella's relationship with. The hurricane is a great starting point. The turbulent uncontrollable weather gives dramatic effect but it is also descriptive of the relationship of the two main characters. Reckless, chaotic, an emotional whirlwind that is out of control. All apply to Tyler and Ella's mixed up feelings for each other. I received an ARC of Dare to Take in exchange for an honest review. Ella is a character that has lead the life of a victim but determined to be her own hero. She doesn't trust easy. Tyler has led his life trying to outrun his past. He's nobody's hero and carries the pain of his youth, past mistakes and his history with Ella on his heavy shoulders. He knows he's no prize but he wants to be a better man for the people he loves. When danger sets him on a course of protecting the one woman he can't have, but can't live without he will stop at nothing to claim his most prized possession- Ella. Dare to Take paints a graphic picture of emotion, guilt, heartache and courage. Neither character gave credit to just how strong they were individually and how much stronger they could be together. I liked Ella in the previous book so I was excited for her to get her HEA. I was not so sure about Tyler...and to be honest, even by the end, I still wasn't 100% sure he was good enough. But, overall, a good story! Full review on The Book Disciple ( )

I haven't read the previous books in this series. Although this can be read as a standalone, I think that those who have read the other books will enjoy this one more. The story is mainly about Ella and Tyler, but the rest of the family plays a big part.

Tyler was Ella's first. It was a mistaken, drunken romp that has hindered their friendship for years. They're in each other's lives a lot and always end up fighting because of left over bad feelings and ignored attraction. Both also have lots of family issues to face. Tyler especially has some growing up to do. An attack on Ella puts them together, and their true emotions finally come to the surface.

Dare to Take is about two people getting over past hurts and focusing on what direction they really want their lives to go. Fans of the other books will be happy to know that families matters like weddings and babies happen along the way for some of the couples. If you love to read about big close-knit families and erotic sexy times, you should check it out.
