A thoroughly enjoyable parody on children's fantasy tropes, most notably the Narnia and Wizard of Oz 'child discovers a magical realm, completes a quest and then returns home' one. The storytelling is fast-paced, the illustrations both pretty and hilarious (and, frequently, grotesquely violent), and the dialogue is very fun. The running gag of a new narrator with every issue/chapter is a particular favourite of mine. My sole complaint of any consequence is that the plot and world both feel a bit shallow, with too few memorable major developments sprinkled through. But that is likely only a volume 1-symptom, where too much space is spent on establishing the premise and concept compared to developing the story, and I have faith that the later installments explore this insane world and story in far more depth. This was fluffin' fantastic! Even though I Hate Fairyland is a quick read, it's funny, fun, and colorful. Been a fan of Skottie Young since his run on Marvel's Oz books. Even though this book may look like it for kids, it's not. Take what Young did in Oz and turn it into a blood bath. I also like how Young writes this book too. Wasn't sure what his writing style was going to be like, but I like the fact it's simple and funny. Too early to tell, but I'm really loving this series so far. I really do enjoy [a:Skottie Young|62104|Skottie Young|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1355502093p2/62104.jpg]'s artwork in this. The plot was interesting as it followed a grown adult in a child's body because she has been on a quest for almost 30 years. While I did enjoy this graphic novel, I really don't care to see what happens next. If I come across Vol. 2 in a discount bin then I'll buy it. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

From superstar writer and artist Skottie Young (Rocket Raccoon, Wizard of Oz, Fortunately, The Milk), comes the first volume of an all new series of adventure and mayhem. An Adventure Time/Alice in Wonderland-style epic that smashes its cute little face against grown-up Tank Girl/ Deadpool-esque violent madness. Follow Gert, a forty-year-old woman in a six year-old's body, who has been stuck in the magical world of Fairyland for nearly thirty years. Join her and her giant battle-axe on a delightfully blood-soaked journey to see who will survive the girl who Hates Fairyland. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
