The book does a good job of exemplifying stats in a clear way, which is exactly what it intended to do. However, the book is incredibly basic as it does not have much in the way of words to accompany it. Arguably that is not an issue because the book was supposed to be simple, but I feel like its so simple it does not really say a lot. Interesting to look through once but not one I'd ever reach for again or recommend. Could be good for kids around 10 but any older and there are better resources out there ( ) The World as 100 People - A Visual Guide to 7 Billion Humans by Aileen Lord is an interesting concept. Viewing the world of 7 billion people represented by just 100 has enabled Lord to analyse all kinds of statistics. Full of easy to read infographics covering such topics as economics, health and education, the information is boiled down to the basics and percentages. I love stats and was keen to read this, but disappointed to find no background on the data she used or how she formulated her results. The simplistic nature of The World as 100 People makes it a quick and easy flick thru but for me it failed to make any kind of impact. Perhaps I need an 'adult' or expanded version? Appropriate for all ages. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
What would the world look like if the 7 billion people on this planet were presented as 100 individuals? This beautifully illustrated and informative infographics book re-examines the world's population with fascinating and often sobering results. Covering diverse subjects such as demography, education, technology and health, The World as 100 Peoplereveals that 61 people are Asian, 15 are African, 10 come from Europe and 14 are from the Americas. 51 people live in cities, yet 36 lack basic access to sanitation. 21 people are overweight, 15 are undernourished and 1 is starving. 40 individuals are regular Internet users and 21 have a Facebook page. Perhaps most shockingly of all, 48 people currently live on less than US$2 per day while 1 person owns 48% of all the world's wealth. With bold infographics from Melbourne-based designer and artist Aileen Lord, The World as 100 Peoplehighlights the reality of the world we live in. It is enlightening and thought provoking, and will ensure that you'll never look at the world's population in the same way again. No se han encontrado descripciones de biblioteca. |
