I had never before read this author but she is now one of my must reads. So good so so good. The one sour note for me was Annie's roommate I found her to be obnoxious but other than that it was perfection. ( ) Read my full review of the book at seriesousbookreviews.com! Spoiler Free! **Copy provided by Netgalley for review** For me, this book focused too much on the love triangle and not enough on Annie growing independently as a woman. She was far too fixated on what she couldn't have and had no remorse for hurting what she did have and that irritated me as a reader. Throughout the book she makes reckless decisions and takes offence when some people offer her honest advice but totally agrees when someone else offers her the same advice. Her selfish actions frustrated me and that really dampened my reading experience because I didn't like the narrator. I just felt like the wrong things were the focus in this book. Despite the romance being the focus for 80% of the book, I just didn't see the connections between the two boys and Annie. It was all very superficial and happened way too fast. I also feel like more could have been done with Annie's home life situation instead of leaving it for the end where it gets briefly mentioned and resolved. Considering it is the whole reason she chose to go to college elsewhere and create the list, it could have had some more polish to it. This is one of the sweetest and most heartbreaking books I've read. Annie has been sheltered all her life, slowly suffocating beneath her father's paranoia and going away to college is her only escape. Unfortunately all that overprotectiveness left her highly unprepared for dealing with the reality of college and life as a teenager in general. She's never dressed up or had her hair or nails done, never put on make up or jewelry, never been been to a party, on a date or even had a first kiss. Moving purely on instinct she has got herself into a bit of a mess with Chris and Ryan, childhood BFs and both of them very interested in her. Where Chris is sweet and makes her heart flutter, Ryan makes her blood boil and she has much more in common with him. But Ryan is a good guy and won't go for the girl that Chris is interested in no matter how bad he wants to be her first everything. Free copy provided in exchange for an honest review. Annie Roth has led a very sheltered life. After her mother died in a terrible accident just months after Annie was born, her grieving father forbade her from having any semblance of a social life. Barely allowed to leave the house, and always supervised by her brothers, eighteen-year-old Annie decided that the only way to be happy was to go to college on the other side of the country. With the help of her new roommate, Cami, Annie makes a list of twenty things she'd like to do before she's out of her teens. Annie has just over a year to do things like have her first kiss, go skinny dipping, go on a road trip, and get a guy's phone number. Lucky for her, she meets a great group of friends very quickly, all of whom are happy to help her cross things off her list. The only problem is Ryan, who's not only Cami's cousin, but also best friends with Chris, the guy Annie's been seeing. Annie can't get Ryan out of her mind, but he's too loyal to Chris to let anything happen. Annie is one of those characters that you can't help but root for, even when she's doing something completely idiotic. I just wanted her to be happy, to finally break away from the confines of her family and do what she wanted for a change. That's the thing about this story. You can't fault Annie for anything that she does, because she's never experienced anything. Her overbearing father kept her from learning basic life skills, like not going off alone with random boys when she's drunk. And the more that her friends didn't understand, the more that I sympathized with her. While I was in no way raised under the same circumstances as Annie, I was pretty naive and innocent when I left home for college. It's a learning experience, as much for how to be an adult as it is for academic knowledge. So, like I mentioned, I loved Annie. I also loved Cami and Ryan. Chris, eh. He kind of annoyed me from the beginning. But overall, this book was really good. I started reading at 9pm and figured I'd just read a few chapters before going to bed. Well, next thing I knew, it was 1am and I was done. Done, and dying for more. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a free copy. [see all my book reviews at the bibliophagist] Loved this one! This is a great read that takes you on a journey of a young woman's growth while learning to handle some very complicated relationships. Finally free of an obsessively over protective father, Annie is determined to experience life during her first semester at college. She has a list of things she wants to do before her next birthday and with the help of her roommate and her friends it looks like she will easily reach that goal. Then things get complicated! Definitely a book I would recommend to everyone! sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
