For those contemplating religious choices, Unitarian Universalism offers an appealing alternative to religious denominations that stress theological creeds over individual conviction and belief. In this new edition of the classic introductory text on Unitarian Universalism, which includes a revealing, entertaining foreword by best-selling author Robert Fulghum (All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten, It Was on Fire When I Lay Down on It), a new preface by UU moderator Denise Davidoff, and two new chapters by the authors, John Buehrens and Forrest Church explore the many sources of the living tradition of their chosen faith.… (más)
ives a look into the core principles and sources of the Universal Unitarian association. Not a single religion, but rather a gathering of people with the same core values which includes coming to a personal theology.
Introduction of this edition particularly insightful.
Some of the writing seemed haphazard and not cohesive, but for the most part I enjoyed and learned from the book. ( )
I read this when I was depressed about the outcome of Bush/Kerry, because apparently I'm my mother's daughter and turn to a higher power when depressed. I'm rereading this now because my mother died recently, so you may see more religion stuff here. ( )
This classic introductory text on Unitarian Universalism by John A. Buehrens, who served as President of the UUA, has been revised and includes a new forward by Robert Fulghum, author of All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten. This work was co-authored by Forrest Church, another distinguished UU minister, who wrote many other books important to the faith. Denise Davidoff provided a new preface. She and her husband, Jerry Davidoff, were honored with the Award for Distinguished Service to Unitarian Universalism in 2006.
Buehrens and Church both discuss their awakening experiences. The concept of deeds not creeds is explored, along with discussions about the known and unknown and other spiritual concepts. The book ends with a brief chronology of Unitarian Universalist history and includes suggestions for further reading.

Small as is our whole system compared with the infinitude of creation, brief as is our life compared to the cycles of time, we are so tethered to all by the beautiful dependences of law, that not only the sparrow’s fall is felt at the outermost bound, but the vibrations set in motion by the words that we utter reach through all space and the tremor is felt through all time. - Maria Mitchell, nineteenth-century Unitarian and astronomer
I can believe a miracle because I can raise my own arm. I can believe a miracle because I can remember. I can believe it because I can speak and be understood by you. - Ralph Waldo Emerson, Unitarian minister and essayist

This Work is A chosen faith : an introduction to Unitarian Universalism (1998, ISBN 0807016179).
PLEASE DO NOT COMBINE WITH Our chosen faith : an introduction to Unitarian Universalism (1989, ISBN is 0807016071), which is an earlier version lacking some chapters, a different foreword, a different preface, and a slightly different title - thus making it a different Work.
