An interesting new direction, and while I can't point to any specific thing, I just wasn't that into it. Lots of cool ideas, and I appreciate both the diversity and the strong women. I even like the historical era and how MRK is playing with it. It might be me experiencing reading fatigue. Also, a red-head named Ginger... why? Something here didn't quite click for me- I still love the premise, and I greatly appreciated the attention to detail in terms of the horrors of WWI (and kudos for including Tolkien!) What I didn't love is that the love story and the murder mystery didn't quite mesh together. I was more concerned about poltergeists when I should have been focusing on rogue Germans, and vice versa. Perhaps I wasn't in the necessarily frame of mind when I read this, but for me, this wasn't as stupendous as I was expecting. Still worth reading if you have any interest in WWI, ghosts, and/or spiritualism though! sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
"Ginger Stuyvesant, an American heiress living in London during World War I, is engaged to Captain Benjamin Hartshorne, an intelligence officer. Ginger is a medium for the Spirit Corps, a special Spiritualist force ... Ginger and her fellow mediums contribute a great deal to the war efforts, so long as they pass the information through appropriate channels. While Ben is away at the front, Ginger discovers the presence of a traitor. Without the presence of her fiancé to validate her findings, the top brass thinks she's just imagining things"--Amazon.com. I don't know if this will develop into a series, it has the markers but no official indication. Either way I hope to see more from Ms. Kowal.
This is in the running (the lead at the moment) for my "best of" pick for 2016. ( )
