Rolt (a great writer and populariser of such topics) was approached to write a short biography of Brunel. The result was the still overbearing fixation with Brunel as being connected to Bristol, and the Clifton suspension bridge in particular. To the point where Brunel is still known as the builder of the Clifton bridge (he wasn't) and his actual bridge below, the first iron swivel bridge, is so unknown that it was almost discarded unrecognised.
This isn't a bad biography. What it covers is covered well. But it's nowhere near a complete one. ( )
