Un sesto libro che conferma ulteriormente il valore di questa saga familiare che continua ad intrigarmi e coinvolgermi come poche altre. ( )

It has been a remarkable journey with Clifton Chronicles. Jeffrey Archer really has a knack of keeping the readers glued and make them nervous and make them wait for the next novel to get released. I'm waiting for THIS WAS A MAN for a long time and November 3rd is the date. The new characters and the old characters are simply awesome! Portraying Jessica on the lines of her aunt/Granny is simply awesome. Glad that i was able to finish three novels in one week. ( )

The final (7th) book in The Clifton Chronicles! If you like multigenerational, long-running English family sagas with lots happening, The Clifton Chronicles are for you. Events can verge almost into melodrama at times, but the story lines hook you and never let go, and the characters in the book grow and change with the times. Those on the side of good sometimes lose the battle, but mostly (!) win the war. ( )

I'm sad to rate this book one star less than the previous five, but the story meanders in many directions without much coherence in this sixth volume of the Clifton Chronicles. The story in general is the same with the villains, old ones and new, indulging in various forms of villainy while the good ones get ahead for most part.
In spite of Archer's engaging narrative, many parts of this book seem pointless and lacking in substance, like the tragic romance sequence set in Bombay. I sincerely hope the final installment is far better than this one... ( )
