This isn't my normal area of interest, so I approached the book with reluctance. I'm happy to say that I enjoyed it after all. It was a quick read about sorcerers, evil kings, a young good king who tries to serve the kingdom and his loyal guards including his fiance. The allegory explains how a 3rd power gets 2 other powers to fight so the 3rd power can come in and take over all the resources. The good news is the abused kingdoms came to their senses and the loving couple who seemed certain to be separated by death are joyously reunited. If you like this sort of thing, then start the series at the beginning. ( )

Friendship. Conflict. Love’s Triumph. This is how I summarize Endure, book three in the Defy trilogy by Sara B. Larson.

Wow. A lot happened in this final book of the series. We start at the problem of how to defeat Rafe, an evil sorcerer, who controls Rylan’s mind while holding him prisoner to get to Alexa, and Damian begging Alexa to never leave him again. We end at peace and happily ever after with the world safe from evil and a new dawn for Antion and the neighboring nations.

This one gave a recap in a very neat way King Damian was thinking of how his mom would tell the story of what had happened in the last two books so that helped to catch me up a little bit and also was a neat way of approaching the recap issue.

we get to see more of the romance between Alexa and Damien and I'm so glad that they're out in the open. there's some pretty steamy scenes between them but nothing that would cause me to think it was turning into more of a new adult novel or anything.

We also get to see a lot of the other characters and we lose some of them in the wartime and others stick by Damian's side. he has to make a lot of tough decisions and he also has to come to grips with the fact that Alexa is part of his guard and she wants to fight for the country and she wants to play her part in helping to save her friends and people who are loyal. but she also has to realize that she is going to be the queen and she has to figure out a way to balance that.

The series finale brings the answers, action, and conclusion that I wanted. There were people that I wish didn't die, but I can understand why and see the foreshadowing. They all died doing something they believed in, and had already promised to give their life if needed for that cause,

Bottom Line: Good series ending. ( )

The four stars are for sentiment only. The book itself is three stars, but the series was so enjoyable for me that I'm giving this one four stars even though it was not really anything special as far as endings go. 'Defy' was amazing and the series stayed strong, but never quite captured the "wow-ness" of that first book. ( )

A nice, quick read to finish up the Defy trilogy. Is it bad if I just can't summon up much energy to care about these characters anymore? My primarily frustration is that Alexa doesn't appear to change much - she continues to follow the same pattern of dashing off into the jungle to fight a hopeless battle which she somehow comes through alive. I wish Alexa would have been a bit more dynamic and developed over the course of the series. For all that, this isn't a bad conclusion to the trilogy. ( )
