Another suspenseful read from Henderson.
A darker story of a kidnapped girl who is now a surviving woman, a tolerable read since it was not my favorite suspense or book by Dee Henderson, yes it was nice but it did not stand out too much from other suspenseful stories.
While I enjoyed it Taken had too much telling and not showing for me. This is a little older then the O'Malley series with the kidnappings and murders. The talks that happened between Shannon and Matthew bordered on preachy, they were almost only there to tell about the characters faith and not show their faith. Highly annoying! ( )

Just like all of Dee Henderson’s books, I really enjoyed it! I loved the characters and the storyline. It was so detailed and each piece of the puzzle was delivered so precisely throughout the book, that I never got bored. The mystery of Shannon’s abduction, the people involved, the reason, the way she escaped was all written so well, that it kept me turning the pages wanting more. As the book ended, I will admit I was disappointed that there is no sequel. I would love to know more about the characters, they became my friends!

Some supporting characters in this book are featured in her Evie Blackwell series. So it was nice to see them again, even if I did go at it backwards.
Dee Henderson writes a beautiful Christian fiction where she weaves faith and God’s healing into the pages with such purpose that you just expect it. It’s not preachy, just Christian’s living out their faith in a beautiful way. ( )

A great read and I really liked the incorporation of previous characters ( )

First off, I love the premise of this book. There was no need to make drama between the two main characters, and I love how solid their relationship was as a result of that. The focus was where it should have been. I loved getting to know the characters. Shannon was strong without being abrasive, and her faith was stronger as a result, even after witnessing tragedy. I could go into what this book was NOT (fluffy, insubstantial, etc.), but it's enough to say I loved this book. ( )

It's been about fifteen years (!!) since I picked up my first Dee Henderson novel, and in the intervening years, I've drifted away from leisurely reading of fiction that is overly religious. However, I was browsing through popular suspense ebooks over the weekend and decided to check out some of her newer novels. Apparently I jumped into the middle of a series (though these aren't marketed specifically as a series, it's evident that several of the characters mentioned have their own novels), which probably spoils me for some of the other novels.

As someone who was blithely naive about relationships in my twenties and who thought I could methodically plan out my goals for the future, Shannon's meticulous timeline for her proposed life milestones seems a bit unrealistic. Although characters in the story do take issue with her supposed stages of recovery, I thought that the concept of the personal goals were not well addressed. Also, the fifteen year age gap squicks me out a bit. Still, this is a nice break from the violence and gore of other novels in the suspense genre, despite what now feels to me like a heavy-handed shoehorning of religion into the story. ( )
