Forensic accountant Sloane Tobin and kooky pet psychic Willa may have the same face, but that's the only thing these identical twins have in common. How she can read the hearts and minds of animals has always been a mystery to Willa, and her rotten luck with men is equally baffling. Although she's been looking for "The One" for what feels like forever (A teenage marriage to a French mime and dating a guy named Spider seemed like good ideas at the time!), optimistic Willa refuses to give up on love. When she meets Brody, the handsome rose expert hired to save her grandmother's garden, she's instantly smitten, but why does he keep sending her mixed signals? Does he return her feelings, or is their attraction all in her fanciful head?Unlike her twin, Sloane has zero interest in romance. Her passion is her job, where she uses her gift for numbers to take down slimy embezzlers and asset-hiding spouses. When she's assigned two high profile cases, Sloane feels confident the promotion she's been angling for is within her grasp. But will her plan to climb the corporate ladder be thwarted by difficult clients, her co-worker-with-benefits, or - most surprisingly of all - her own sister? And how's she supposed to stay focused on the drama at work when her childhood friend, Gav, moves in next door and the spark between them becomes impossible to ignore? To get what they both want, can Willa and Sloane band together and rely on each other's strengths? Or will their differences drive them apart once and for all?… (más)

My third chick lit book (or at least the third I knew was chick lit before I started reading it), and first by this author.

A good solid book. Solid characterization. Weird melodramatic plot involving twins - one works as a forensic accountant and is super serious and super ambitious, who doesn't believe in romance (she's willing to 'lose' an hour a week for sex, but zero for anything like dating), while the other works as a pet psychic and is somewhat flighty, super babbly, very creative brain sided, history of poor chooses in men, but unable to stop looking for love and romance. (ETA: both are super smart, one has just pointed their brain towards math, numbers, business, and the like while the other has pointed their brain towards creative stuff)

At the start of the book, Sloane is not dating her boss, she's just occasionally fucking him, while Wila is sad she can't find anyone for herself. And sad Sloane doesn't seem to care about relationships. Then Wila meets Brody, a rose guy. And Sloane keeps fucking Josh.

Meanwhile, to round out the characters, Gav lives next door to Sloane, is a successful graphic novelist whose story two main characters, twins, share a striking similarity to the twins Sloane and Wila (other than the graphic novel characters having much larger breasts, something like DD vs the real world counterparts having size B breasts). Oh, and Gav, Wila, and Sloane grew up together.

Tommy, who is a much smaller character, is the gay roommate of Wila's. Everyone else has a much smaller role.

See, people in their 30s, much closer to my own age. Much more interesting than reading about someone in their teens or 20s. Well, still something like half a decade younger than me. Well. More than half a decade younger than me.

Hmms. I do not know what I'm doing. Why the heck am I now reading chick-lit books? I'm not exactly that interested in M/F relationships. hmms. heh. I be confused. Oh, right, was in Kindle Unlimited program and was looking for something to read. (there are other, non-chick-lit books in that program; shut-up self) ( )

I adore Banister. She has such an ability to write stories that are creative, original and captivating. You can relate to the characters because they are not perfect, they are funny and real and are unlike others you have read before. In Twin Piques, Banister has not only created main characters that are awesome to read, but entertaining and fun supporting characters (some good and some evil...some sexy) that you are also interested in. This is the type of depth you can expect when reading a book by Banister!!! Such a great read! 4.5 stars!!! ( )
