Lots of repetition, very annoying. The jaguar cubs are cute and have nice moments. They start off already being in separate relationships which fall apart and they conveniently fall into each other. She has a lot of turmoil on how that will appear to others. Not my favorite in this series. ( )

This was the fourth book of this series and once again it takes us to the rainforests of Costa Rica and the poachers trying to take on the JAG. Huntley and Melissa are on the trail of one such poacher who is looking to score a mating pair. After a few missed calls they find themselves caring for twin cubs as they desperately try to save the parents. Falling into bed together was about the only easy part of the mission, but deciding if they should stay together is something Melissa struggles with. There were some sexy moments along with humor of trying to care for the cubs and plenty of action. Terry Spear is one author that always delivers on an exciting read. Recommend if you like a well developed story with shifters and exotic locations.

Review courtesy of All Things Urban Fantasy

I had always meant to read this series since I have read and enjoyed Terry Spear's other shifter series Heart of the Wolf. Like usual I jumped into reading a series right in the middle with the fourth book and luckily like Heart of the Wolf, Heart of the Jaguar is a series you can just jump into with out any confusion. What I liked about JAGUAR PRIDE was the plot involving two people being thrown into a 'babysitting' job in the middle of a jungle. I assumed some hilarious hijinks would ensue with randomly shifting jaguar babies and I was not disappointed. While this isn't a laugh out loud story by any means I really loved seeing Melissa and Huntley try to figure out how to take care of babies with minimal supplies and no experience taking care of babies. Aside from the baby issues the plot involving poachers and kidnapping was pretty intense and felt like a thriller set in a hot sweaty jungle.

The type of romance with Melissa and Huntley is one of my favorite in the romance genre for its realism. These two knew eachother and had some attraction to the other person but never acted on it due to circumstances. Circumstances conveniently work in their favor and they find eachother in the middle of the jungle together. These two work so well together in the field and share so many commonalities in the way the think and what they want that if this were a series staring only them I'd be shaking my fist wondering why they haven't gotten together already. Luckily no fist shaking happens and the romance is passionate and fun.

JAGUAR PRIDE is an excellent example of a paranormal romance done right. It has a healthy dash of suspense and thrilling action with some humor and gentleness to balance out the darker plot surrounding poaching of jaguars. Terry Spear has always been on my list of authors whose books I will pick up and read without hesitation and I look forward to reading more of Heart of the Jaguar. ( )

Attraction plus!

JAG team investigators Huntley Anderson and Melissa Overton are two dedicated special forces jaguar shifter agents tracking an elusive poacher of big cats who's been slipping past agents with astute regularity. This time they mean to get him. Unfortunately it seems that this time Jackson has captured a mated pair of shifter jaguars. Not only that, Huntley and Melissa find themselves suddenly having to bone up on their non existent parenting skills when their investigations come to include the couple's shifter cubs.
It's not just the shifter cubs that bring them together though, the attraction between Huntley and Melissa is undeniable. 'Smoking hot' might be more apt. Between that, searching for the poacher, and looking after the cubs, Huntley and Melissa have their hands full.
The dialogue between Melissa and Huntley can be stilted. I liked them as characters but at times their conversation and inner reflections feel flat. They deserved to be so much more. Spear's writing here just doesn't match the depth and flow that I really enjoy in her wolf series.
I do like the clever title. 'Pride' in more ways than one!
Despite my reservations I still had to read on to see how all was resolved.

4 ½ of 5 Stars

JAG Special Forces agent Melissa Overton and Huntley Anderson, are on a mission in Costa Rica to stop poaches. They recover two shifter cubs (becoming babysitters) and need to rescue their parents.

Jaguar Pride is a great novel with an interesting plot. I felt that the story was refreshing and not done before.

Melissa and Huntley are fantastic characters. They are so much alike that they make perfect partners. They are both in relationships with the wrong people that do not fully appreciate them. Melissa and Huntley are risk takers who like to have fun. They care about protecting other shifters and non-shifting cat. They are good people that are easy to like.

I love how the shifter community comes together when they find out about the kidnapped parents and rescued shifter cubs. The different units as well as civilians want to do what they can to bring the cubs and their parents home safe.

The plot was interesting and full of tons of action. There was a lot going on the kept me engaged. The story was well-written and believable. Terry Spear does a wonderful job with her description and character development. She is a gifted writer whom I truly enjoy.
