In Embers of Courage, ICE Special Agent Eva Montanna discovers the world is ablaze with danger when militants capture her task force teammate, NCIS Special Agent Raj Pentu, during a CIA operation in Egypt. She risks her life to defeat tyrants oppressing Christians, and is plunged into a daring rescue mission. Eva's faith is tested like never before as mysterious ashes, her ancient family Bible, and fifteenth century religious persecution collide with modern-day courage under fire. This riveting novel, the ninth by ExFeds Diane and David Munson, is their third linking true historical events with their signature High Velocity Suspense. The authors refer to their novels as “factional fiction”, taking history then weaving a tale including interesting places, people or events unearthed through research. Embers of Courage to me was one of the highlights of my reading experiences in a long time, which is saying a lot for someone who reads many books within a single year. However, lest you think I accomplish the number of books a year alone, let me reassure you I have a wonderful friend and partner who, though unknown to many, is a critical part of this blog ministry.
What fascinated me so much was the use of flashback with the current story line that at times alternated between the two. Let me share with you that it makes for compelling reading. Readers will not get lost or find it difficult to follow the story line at all. The challenge I discovered was how it would all tie in together at the end of book, which simply was accomplished stunningly, along with boldly sharing Scripture and Jesus embedded in the stories audiences delight in!
The whole novel will awaken the hearts of readers to understand the challenges faced today regarding speaking openly of our faith in Jesus with a look back in history to those who were persecuted for the same. The novel takes Eva Montanna (ICE Special Agent) eventually overseas without her superiors knowing anything about the mission undertaken. Eva is continuing to understand her own family’s stand in being bold witnesses for Christ even when death is threatened or carried out. Now, her oldest child, Kaley is beating bullied and singled out by her government teacher who gives an assignment which basically challenges Kaley’s first amendment rights.
Not only is all this occurring, Eva is still attempting to track down a wanted man who threatened her and her family’s life should he ever escape. Now he is on the loose and just when Eva is close to nabbing her suspect, he vanishes. The story line of Eva is introduced to readers in the authors’ novel, Stolen Legacy, which was superb! These authors are sharing tales that include aspects of the dangerous assignments they each have encountered throughout their careers. Diane and David Munson write one novel a year and when you read it you will understand why. They take great pains to research, travel and share their discoveries via fiction. Please don’t miss reading and sharing these novels with those you know or even a complete stranger.
