This is a listserv run by the University of Florida’s Department of English’s Comic Studies program. By virtue of being run through this program, the listserv is able to attract an international body of comics scholars who collaborate on issues together. Having used this listserv myself in soliciting help answering questions concerning comic books, I know that the subscribers are genuinely helpful people who can be crowd-sourced to brainstorm on intriguing or controversial topics, as well as mobilized to find very specific, hard-to-find information. This listserv, then, becomes a valuable source for any individual attempting to critically analyze comics, as well as the general pursuer who just wishes to be kept in the loop of current goings-on in the comic industry. This expertise can be utilized to identify comics that deal with particular themes, which can be useful when creating lesson plans, or form constructs, such as the use of montage instead of panels. While some of the research is clearly advanced, much of what is discussed could be utilized to bridge the conversation of comics, and alternative narrative forms, with current events to incentivize students to critically examine media and how it affects society.
