I kind of hated this book to start with. I don't know why exactly, there wasn't anything particular, just didn't grab me. So I put it down for a really long time. Then I picked it up again the other week and tried again. I still kind of hated it but I pushed on through and then this weird thing happened where I found I was actually really enjoying it.

I still hate Fate though. Guy is a jackass. I really don't understand the romance between them because there's nothing to like. Maybe that would be different if he was standing in front of me and I found him hot, I don't know. But he is not standing in front of me and I just found him annoying. No doubt there's going to be a whole soulmate plot in the next books but it still just irritates me - it's all instalove with no substance.

Karma for the most part is an alright character. Can be a bit whiny at times and has some real stupid moments but she's okay. I like the door guards the best. Funny indeed. ( )

Just looking at the wickedly cool cover for Karma by Donna Augustine, I knew I wanted to read it. I was hooked from the very beginning.

She fights Fate tooth and nail. She is a transfer and a problem for him. I love her and her feisty attitude. I don’t blame her for being ticked off, being forced to do a job she didn’t sign up for.

“Don’t break her.” I laughed out loud when I read it.

The fabulous, quirky characters have supernatural agendas, working to keep the world running in the natural order of things. So, come on in and meet, Karma, Lady Luck, Fate, Murphy’s Law, The Jinxes…

In this wildly funny story, the star is a feisty, hard headed girl who thinks she chooses her own path, but does she? Is our destiny already written or do we have free will?

I couldn’t put it down and read it start to finish in one sitting.

Oh no. There isn’t a cliffhanger, but there is no end. I hate that, but I loved the book.

I went in to this book blind, only knowing what the synopsis said and I think it is the best way to enjoy the book and I really enjoyed this book. I found the storyline unique and the characters were interesting, complex and at times annoying, especially the main character Carmilia aka Karma who I found quite whiney/whingey the majority of the time. I could understand why Fate acted the way he did at times to her. Fate is portrayed as the bad bullying guy, but I didn't see him like that. In fact, I found that because I felt Karma was whiney/whingey person that I did not trust her judgement and discription of Fate's character. I think all the characters had redeemable qualities, even if I didn't always like them, like the way they treated other people or just didn't/make logcial decisions. I look forward to reading/listening to the next book in the series. ( )

Karma (Karma #1) by Donna Augustine is a fun and interesting fantasy that kept me entertained and made me want more of this writer. There is an opening for Karma since the last Karma went missing, and the higher ups in the Universe "said" she is dead. So recently deceased girl gets the job, like it or not. She is assigned to work with Fate, who does not like working with those that have been human before, he is not nice at all to her, but he is hot to look at. Job workers are Lady Luck, Murphy (from Murphy's Law), and a few others. It is very clever and fun but there is mystery, intrigue, danger and more. I do want to read the next book in the series, it is that good. I really liked the book! Great plot and well developed characters but it made her a bit too mean at first. ( )

The premise of this book was a pretty interesting one. I don’t know that I’ve read anything like it.

Camilla is a lawyer, and going to be married in a week, when she dies in a horrific train crash. Instead of being escorted to the other side, she is recruited by the Universe as Karma, someone who sets right the imbalances of the world by delivering good karma, and bad karma. She has 30 days to decide if she wants to continue to deliver good or bad Karma to humanity, or move on and be reborn into another life, one that will have no memory of the previous life.

And as long as she has 30 days to decide, they want her to spend it trying to find the person who supposedly set up the train accident, and killed many people on purpose.

Apparently the Universe works very similar to a corporation, with sometimes very little in the way of morals, or ethics. They aren’t in the business of saving people, they are in the business of balancing things, however Karma has other ideas. She hasn’t exactly been embraced by the other employees of the company. (Lady Luck, Murphy’s Law, etc) but since she doesn’t plan on staying after her 30 days are up, she tries not to let it bother her.

She has a love/hate relationship with Fate, the one man who can help her find her killer, and is always in a constant battle with him about something or another. She spends a lot of time tempting Fate, yet pushing him away when things get too intense.

There are some other confusing elements that aren’t fleshed out enough just yet, but I hope they will be in the 2nd book of the series. I wouldn’t call this a gritty urban fantasy, as there are some comedic moments, however there are also some horrific moments (one man is horribly killed by thousands of bees, when ‘karma’ comes back to bite (sting?) him.)

There were a few issues with spelling and grammar that were a bit distracting, but it was a pretty quick read (finished it a few hours) but all in all it is a good premise, and a promising story line and I look forward to reading the next book in the series. ( )
