A well written revenge story that turned into a sweet romance. It was a nice feel good story. ( )

Why did I think it would be a good idea to read this story? I should stop reading e-books just because they are available for free via Amazon Kindle. This approach does nothing but constantly disappoint me, because (nearly - I don't want to make generalizations) each one of those freebies wants to convey nothing but entertainment, yet utterly fails while trying to do so.

K.A. Merikan's "Mr. Jaguar" deals with a typical bad boy called Mike Miller coming across the sexy billionaire, James Austin, who has been bullied by Mike years ago in high school. And that's already the entire thing. Despite being a short novel, nothing really happens, and none of the jokes included in the text have been really funny. The only thing I managed to laugh about was how it was supposed to be funny, however ended up being everything but funny. I didn't get into the characters' minds, I didn't get into the story itself, and I especially did not understand the approach the author(s) used with this story. I might have forgiven insta-love, but this one was more like insta-sex, so it did not really leave any room for the characters to be developed in any significant way, especially since the bullying mentioned about the characters' common past did not really take part in the story.

"Mr. Jaguar" is a story to be forgotten easily. More regular M/M readers might like it, though - I didn't. ( )

This one really didn't work for me. Mike has gone from top-of-the-game in high school to working at a small gas station and feeling like he just can't get a break. When the wealthy James (who he eventually remembers from high school) shows up at the gas station and hires him to pose as his date at a conference, he thinks this might finally be his way out - both out of town and out of the closet. But could pretending to be James' boyfriend lead to something more between them?

Mike confused me as a character. I can understand seeing a way to break out of his shell but he was just so suddenly over-the-top. And the continued dynamic between the two of them just seemed contrived as they talked through the same issues over and over and over. It just didn't come together for me in an enjoyable way. ( )

I wasn't sure if I'd like this book, I admit I've had problems connecting with the characters written by this writing pair in the past. And when Mike started out as an almost homophobic gay guy, I thought, here we go again. But I quickly learned Mike's responses were a defence mechanism and by the 25% mark I was hoping he'd get his HEA.

I found Mike a far more endearing character than James but even James' awkwardness grew on me once he stopped being a dick.

I'm glad I took a chance on this one.
