Steve has become a virtual recluse, while Melody is consumed by guilt, and sees in their son a constant reminder of the man Steve used to be. The town of Oakwell has become a tourist hotspot for paranormal enthusiasts, eager to learn more about the 'Hope House Haunting', becoming everything the residents of the once sleepy town fought so hard to prevent. Ambitious town councillor, Henry Marshall has an idea to turn the unwanted attention on the town to his own advantage, by building a hotel on the site of Hope House. Loved the first book, and this one is just as enthralling. I'm loving Michael Bray's style and there's some truly disturbing imagery in this book.
Takes a lot to actually get me to wince - especially from a book - but there were several moments in this that made me let out a mildly (and very manly) shriek.
This was a perfect and very logical continuation of the first book and I look forward to reading the conclusion! ( )

I received this book from librarything.com in return for an honest review.

I enjoyed this book.

I loved that there was never a lack of excitement or terror.

All the characters meshed together so well, even if some were affected by those in the woods or if they were not.

I can't wait to read the third book in the series to find out what happens.

While I never read the first book, it did not affect me reading the second one as a standalone. It gave a good amount of backstory so you wouldn't need to got back and read it.

Another great author in the making for the Horror Genre!

I would definitely read more books from Michael Bray. ( )

I love books that are second or further in a series that at least go back and explain what happened in the previous book that you don't have to read it. I read this not realizing it was the second (even though it's on the cover I know!) and went back after finishing this book and read the first book in the series. I think after reading the second book it didn't make a different that I read the first one second...a few things were made a little clearer but you can read this book as a stand alone and still be able to understand what is going on. Good book lots of things that kept me interested. ( )

As the second book in a series, I was worried that this might be difficult to get into. It is however fine to end as a standalone novel. The story is self-contained and while it is heavily based on events that occured in the first book, when they are referred to they are explained nicely with the narrative,

This was a very well-written horror, building the suspense effectively throughout and keeping the reader engaged. The final build was gripping but I did feel the conclusion was very sudden.

All in all a very good book and well recommended. ( )

Who doesn't like a good scare? Well this book will fill the bill. This is part two of of trilogy. I read this book without the benefit of reading book one. I have quickly rectified this, by ordering book one and reading it. What a fabulous series. Can't wait for the next book.

Steve and Melody Samson are characters who will tug at you. They are stuck with some pretty frightening spirits. A wonderful well written horror ride certain to be enjoyed. ( )

Chilling!! Very good read. I received this book and then realized that it was a "book 2" in the series.
Now I have book 1 as well and this is a great series so far.
Great reads!! Love the suspense and the overall storyline.
