A stirring psychological thriller adapted into the movie The Haunted Airman starring Robert Pattinson.Toby Jugg, a fighter pilot shot down in combat, is now confined to his bed with little hope of walking again. He is also the heir to a considerable fortune - a fortune that is being administered by a board of trustees until he comes of age.But night after night, out there in the moonlight, Something was trying to get in at the bedroom window. A huge malevolent Something. Something not of this world. Inside, Toby thought first that he was hallucinating, then that he must be going mad, finally that this evil Something was real and striving to reach him.So begins what is probably Dennis Wheatley's most terrifying story of the supernatural. The struggle which ensues brings Toby unexpected help but also treachery as it moves inexorably towards an appalling confrontation and seemingly inevitable catastrophe.… (más)

This was the second time of having a try of this. First time I abandoned it , but guess you could say I was " haunted " by it. :)
Second time I persevered and ...I finished it . I can't say it was unputdownable . ( except the last few pages ) ..but neither was it stoppable.
So...I got to the bottom of what haunted Toby...with a twist at the end I didn't see coming.
Thought provoking , it is a book of the time it was set...early forties with War going on. The diary format made it easier to read too.
Wouldn't rush just yet to get another book by him...it was quite a challenging read, and you can't just let the words flow over you. But I would be interested and Toby Jugg...may be a second read in the future. ( )

This is the first Dennis Wheatley book I've read and it's safe to say I'm hooked. The black magic theme is presented so gentley that's it is hard to reject the idea of a shadowy network of Devil Worshippers.

In many ways this is a book of it's time period, yet it has a timeless asspect because the story telling is so good. ( )

I read this book many years ago and I still remember the spooky haunting effect it had on me. This book plus The Ka of Gifford Hillary (same author) are not be missed by those interested in the supernatural and scarey stories. ( )

Dennis Wheatleys output was enormous, but of all his satanist novels this is by far the best. Let's face it. One black mass, or whatever it's called, looks pretty much like the other, and when you've read the first the rest seems slightly repetitive. This story was a bit different, with the leading part being crippled and that, and had even me looking through the window to see what was out there before going to bed. Not at all like his rather crappy stories with devil worshiping nazis in south America. Highly recommended. ( )
