"When contemporary Friends speak to each other of the Light Within, do we have a shared understanding of what we mean? Is it the same Light that George Fox spoke of? Rex Ambler explores how early Friends thought about and engaged with the Light in ways that have mostly been lost to Friends today. How could we be enriched - as individuals and as a community - by recovering some of the early Quaker experiences of Light? Discussion questions included." This is a gentle introduction to Ambler's _Experiment with Light_. I read it to P.T. prior to reading it myself (a first!), but she did enjoy it. As did I. As with much Quaker history, one must first get beyond the language. The words certainly sound like English, but their meanings are just slightly skewed. This pamplet asks the reader to look deeply within and see how the Light of Christ, or Inner Light, or Inward Teacher is with us constantly and if we pay attention we can see where we may be being led astray by our egos. A very easy read. Ambler's extraordinary pamphlet explains the essentials of Quakerism, the understanding that is the fundamental and necessary essence of the Quaker insight and way, according to the earliest Quakers. Ambler contends that modern Quakers have largely lost this original meaning, but that it is still crucially relevant to us. This understanding of the Light Within opens to us the promise of coming to our real selves, living in compassion and unity and in connection with God. It deepens our practice and reminds us of our real message to the world. Ambler, a scholar of the early Friends' writings on their experience, gives a detailed explanation of how they report that the Light Within worked on them, first showing them the reality of their own lives, clearing out the self-deceptions of the ego, and then gradually showing the reality of the world. The LIght empowers them to see, accept, and follow where the Truth leads. This understanding and promise of the Light Within are as relevant today as in the 17th century. This pamphlet will be extremely helpful to those seeking either a basic or an advanced explanation of the Light and the Quaker Way. It is written clearly in a readable and friendly style. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
