"In this thoroughly updated new edition of his business classic Leading with Questions, internationally acclaimed management consultant Michael Marquardt and Bob Tiede show how you can learn to ask the powerful questions that will generate short-term results and long-term learning and success. Throughout the book, they demonstrate how effective leaders use questions to encourage participation and teamwork, foster outside-the-box thinking, empower others, build relationships with customers, solve problems, and much more. Step-by-step, they will walk you through the process of learning the art of questioning and shows how to use the techniques of active listening and follow-up, presenting guidelines for using questions in myriad situations with individuals, teams, and organizations. Since the 2nd edition (2014), a growing number of well-known global leaders have begun using questions as a key element of their leadership. Over the past 7 years, the co-authors of the proposed 3rd edition have interviewed scores of these leaders. These leaders serve as executives in many of the most-recognized corporations in the world (e.g. Chick-fil-A, AARP, Marriott, Vistage Spain, Popeyes Chicken, Sonic Automotive, Air Asia). The co-authors have also interviewed authors of several best-selling books on the use of questions (e.g., Andrew Sobel, Tom Zigler, John Miller, Ian Cooper, Beverly Kaye) Recent research conducted by academic institutions has expanded their knowledge on how questions change people and organizations"--… (más)

I wish more people could or would take the time to read this book. The art of listening is weak these days. In this book, the authors give you great guidance on how to ask the right questions to be able to glean valuable information. Also by learning to ask then listen to the people speak is an art form in and of itself that most people don't bother learning to master.

Fabulous book for leaders at any level and within any organization. Well done book.

I recommend it for anyone leading people.

Disclaimer: I received a hardback copy from the authors with no expectation in return. The above thoughts are my own and voluntarily shared them. ( )

It's a business leadership book, so of course there are lots of anecdotes, quotes, bullet points and jargon, but the actual advice presented is clear and practical -- not necessarily easy to implement, but reflection and self-analysis never is. I felt like I had a good starting point, though, by the time I finished reading.

My biggest complaint is... maybe more of an observation. I find it interesting that for all the mention the author gives to making decisions collaboratively, as team members and peers, the entire mindset of the presentation assumes a hierarchical environment -- with the reader/implementor of these suggestions at the head. I found this book to wander a bit, and it did not offer a single model for using questions to lead. My company's Precision Questioning workshop (by Vervago, www.vervago.com) would be much more helpful to a manager wanting to improve her performance with questions. ( )
