Kidon David Slater is working as a stone mason, having vowed never to kill again, when the new head of Mossad decides he must have David's help to terminate an Iranian nuclear scientist after two failed attempts, which are thought to be the result of an internal leak. Mossad tries to grab Slater's wife, who goes on the run. When David comes to rescue her, he decides that in order to be left alone he must take the assignment, risking his marriage. Great action and deception, and while I liked the ending, one part seemed too altruistic. ( )

Interesting premise, with uneven plot development. Some intervals make limited sense and at time are implausible. Hard to know whether to like or really dislike Slaton and the Mossad.
An interesting read overall ( )

Assassin’s Game is the second book in this series, and since I could not find an actual name for the series, I christen it The Kidon. Which is Hebrew for bayonet and is also the code name for some of Israel's assassin’s. Which is actually ironic considering that the name assassin came from an Islamic religious sect. I started this series with this book and I am tempted to pick up the first one.

Slaton aka Deadmarsh has been living a quiet life in the US, most recently working for a landscaper putting in retaining walls. His wife is in Sweden at a medical seminar when he gets a text from her. He drops everything and flies over. What he finds is a flubbed attempt at a kidnapping but his wife is still missing.

He soon learns who was behind it and it doesn’t make him happy. It’s his old place of work, and they want him to do ‘one last job’, and they will leave him and his wife alone. Needless to say this makes him a very unhappy person. David Slaton is a very dangerous person to have against you.

The job. To kill a famous and dangerous nuclear physicist working on Iran’s nuke program. He appears he will actually make it succeed. And soon.

This turns into a very interesting game of cat and mouse and several very serious twists that you don’t find out until almost the end. It also becomes very interesting when the last pieces are fit, why David was ‘asked’ to play his part in the drama. It’s a bit shocking what some are willing to send others to do. ( )
