In Twilight Sparkle's story I got to the a mention about reading books with "that vampire pony" in them and decided that these little comics just aren't for me. After getting irritated at the last one, I am just walking away from this one. Sad pony...

Thank you Diamond Book Distributors for providing me with an ARC copy for review.

I have read both volumes of My little Pony: Friendship is Magic and enjoyed them. This graphic novel is Mane Tales, a collection of stories starring one pony in particular, but featuring the others as well. I liked this new approach to the MLP comics and really enjoyed something other than the big group storyline. At the same time, I didn't miss any of the characters since so many were in each story.

Of course,me a story had different lessons. MLP is always about the lessons, and I like that. It made me laugh out loud, Pinky Pie especially. I really hope they do more Man Tales. It's something where you could pick up an issue and not miss anything, or read the graphic novel at a leisurely pace like I did. Getting bits of MLP at a time was really nice. It's not better or worse from the Friendship is Magic arc, it's just different. ( )

This book was generously donated by Diamond Book Distributors.

This book is a collection of six short stories. Each one focuses on one of the ponies (Twilight Sparkle, Fluttershy, Apple Jack, Rarity, Rainbow Dash, and Pinkie Pie). The whole gang does not make an appearance in all of the stories. In each story, one of the ponies learns about the importance of friendship.

I am a big fan of The Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic television show. The ponies between the pages of this book are the same as the ponies on the television show. I was a bit disappointed that the whole gang was not in all of the stories. Each individual story was very adorable; however, they were a bit predictable. My favorite story was the Pinkie Pie tale; however, that is not surprising, because I am a Pinkie Pie fan. Although any pony fan will enjoy these stories, I feel that these stories are best for the younger pony fan set. ( )

Okay, confession time, when I was a little girl (therefore around the time of G1 My Little Pony) I was absolutely convinced I would grow up and become Twilight. Not the Stephenie Meyer franchise, the magical pony who could go, "I wish.. I wish.... I wish..." and just vanish from wherever she was. So much so that when adults asked me, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" I'd answer, "A magical pony".
I'm not the biggest fan of Friendship is Magic, in my time (omg, I'm so old) ponies had scary villains and less sparkle - Rescue at Midnight Castle, anyone?
But the comics are cute!
And I loved revisiting old "friends" like Applejack and... okay, I like the sparkle!

There was still something missing, though, I mean, I know these are for kids, but so is Adventure Time and their comics are still funnier than these. And it's not like with all the bronies, this fandom doesn't have an adult following as well...
So, it was okay, but next time let us hope it's funnier. ( )

My Little Pony: Pony Tales Vol.1 is a set of stories told about each of the main Little Ponies from the new series. Twilight, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, and Applejack are all included. The book is divided up with a story for each and each story’s art is slightly different for each pony. Fluttershy’s pages are mostly pastels and soft, while Pinkie Pie’s are bolder and more in your face…much like Pinkie Pie.

The stories are cute and about various things, like friendship, believing in yourself, helping others, and working together. They were all morals shared with the show. Each of the ponies has their own identity and each is shown through their individual story. I really enjoyed reading this and giggling at the ponies. I mean, who doesn’t love these ponies?! They are hilarious and interesting.

Aside from the fact that everyone should love these characters the messages they send are respectable and important lessons and morals. I think all young children would benefit from this show, the books, and the comics in the My Little Pony line. ( )
