Enjoy Part 1 and 2 of the new sexy and sassy series "I Love My..." - in one fabulous paperback book. I Love My Breakup: Jessica didn't see the breakup coming. If she were more the victim type, maybe she would have stayed in with a jug of ice cream, a box of tissue, and cried. But she's not the victim type. Not even a little bit. I Love My Office Fling You shouldn't get involved with people at work. Especially when you're fresh out of a relationship, you got cheated on, and on top of it all you work for a boss you've nicknamed, "The Bitch." But we don't always do what we should... Pt. 1/3 "I Love My..." series
Jessica Harper is the Assistant Fashion Editor for one of the biggest fashion magazines in New York City. Other than working for an overly-demanding boss, she is happy with her life and with her live-in boyfriend, David. Then the rug is pulled out from under her when David abruptly announces that they should "see other people" which, of course, means he is "already seeing other people".
As she struggles with the breakup and his callous betrayal, she decides to let loose for a while. We watch as she flounders through a couple of heated, but rather meaningless, relationships with a couple of guys--nice guys, but obviously no real depth is involved in what is shared between them, especially on her part. She doesn't really know what she wants. Unfortunately, one of the guys works for her magazine, and when they are caught in a compromising situation, they find themselves in deep water due to a conniving upstart who is trying to steal Jessica's job away from her. There's a truly laugh-out-loud scene when Jessica fights back.
Jessica has two best friends, Nicole and Amber, who are always there for her. They obviously have a special friendship, as evidenced several times throughout the story. Those girls' stories are in Parts 2 and 3 of this series. Jessica surprised me by finding love in the end with someone who would be good for her, but it was a different character than I expected.
This was generally cute fluff with some well-written steam, but Jessica's character definitely shows her (young) age in her apparent need to draw attention to herself when out in public, her risky behavior, and her self-absorbed way of looking at herself. She is a likable character, but one you know is still immature because she acts like the world revolves around her (while she's admiring herself in the mirror). ( )
