But when word reaches Allie that her mother is facing a life threatening illness, she has no choice but to return to the place of nightmares. This book dealt with a terrible, terrible topic and did it SO well. Poor Ali, she was so...resigned. She just saw no way out. And rightfully so. The scenes where she is beaten, holy cow. They were so well written, I just wanted to cry while reading them. I felt the pain that Ali was feeling so clearly. Jamie Canosa did an amazing job making you just feel the reality that Ali was living in.

One thing I really loved about this book is that the characters were totally believable. From Ali to Dean to her parents... I felt that they were all real and relatable, even if you never experienced their lives, you could empathize with them.

I also loved that there was a great epilogue that wrapped up the HEA really, really well.

I definitely recommend reading this book and the series!
