I really liked this book I have read all 6 of the Ascension books this is the 2nd novella of the Dawn of Ascension Series. Samuel is afraid to use his new power for fear of hurting innocent people. Vela is starting her new position away from Militia Headquarters, having lost her husband in battle, she does not want to get involved with another warrior. Samuel and Vela go on a mission to save Duncan and find themselves in The Darkening on Third Earth. I can't wait for the next book ►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►► NOTE: I bought The Darkening on my own as I'm reading the series. I was also given a free copy of the book from the author in exchange for a honest review. ►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►►► Before I start the review, I want to note that if you're reading the Dawn of Ascension books based on how their listed on Amazon, you might be lost reading The Awakening first. I looked at both this book's intro and The Darkening and the The Awakening had a couple listed that I hadn't read their story yet. So I read the Darkening's intro and that one mentions it's set a few months after Gates of Rapture, so I took a chance and read that one (listed #2 on Amazon) first. I'm reading The Awakening now, and my choice was right (that one starts with how The Darkening ended. ☺ ☺ ☺ ☺ ☺ ☺ ☺ ☺ ☺ ☺ ☺ ☺ ☺ ☺ ☺ ☺ ☺ ☺ ☺ ☺ Now the review. I've been a fan of the Guardian of Ascension series, which is the pre-runner of the Dawn of the Ascension series. Even though all the books are complete for the main couple, it really helps to start at the beginning before tackling this story. There's so many things that has happened in the past books that continues through this series. Samuel and Vela are two lost souls despite both being loners, find out they really do need each other. Complete with new powers and some new places to go. And a new person to add to the mix. And get the fan out for the hot love scenes that are sprinkled throughout the book as Samuel and Vela work through the ever famous breh-hedden (for lack of description it's an all-consuming mating call that snares our couples). Keeping various parts to themselves is troublesome at times, but really the sex scenes fit nicely with the storyline. And if sex scenes aren't your thing, you can skim through but still read the dialog of Samuel and Vela, lest you miss something. We also learn more about Third World and what it'll mean to our Second Worlders. A whole new set of the villains to hate and the death vamps are still a big problem, but add to this some Third World evil and there a good base for where this part of the story will take us in the future. And finally, where does Endelle do her shopping. Her outfits are the fun part of the background things, just the imagination it takes to think them up in the first place. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

This is another book in a series that proves to have some amazing characters whether they are the lead characters or secondary characters or characters that are making a cameo appearance. For readers that love vampire books this is a series worth checking out and getting lost in. The world building and plots are unique and hold up and get better with each story that is told. The series takes the reader on an amazingly wild ride that will have them eagerly wanting the next book just to see where this journey will ultimately take them. Each story is different and manages to stay fresh with each and every story that is told.
