This is a fun enough read, I polished it off in a day and it kept me interested throughout. Wright throws together a Source Code/Groundhog Day style mechanic with a Night of the Living Dead style virus and sets in on a Cruise Ship. There is definitely enough here to keep the reader gripped but it ends a bit weakly and the horror never shocks or terrifies.

Entertaining enough but derivative and ultimately unsatisfying. ( )

This is my third Wright novel and I think that he is growing on me.

Very entertaining zombie tale. I enjoyed the Groundhog Day concept which clearly is not a novel idea, but to me it was a fresh way to use the concept in a zombie tale which, genre wise, is a combination of techno-thriller and magic.

Well done. Fun. Highly recommended for a quick horror read.

The story mixes the genre of zombie apocalypse with the movie Groundhog Day. Since I enjoy both of those, I enjoyed the book. However, I had just read a similar mash-up as a short story: Just One Day, by Jacob Prytherch. I think I would have enjoyed this book more if I had read it first. ( )

Jack Wardsley takes a break aboard the cruise liner, Spirit of Kirkpatrick, from his stressful career as a police officer. Expecting a restful holiday, Jack is horrified when his fellow passengers begin to fall ill with a cold-like virus which then causes them to become violent. After a total bloodbath the first night, Jack wakes up at the exact same time the next day and comes to realise that he is reliving the same day over and over, and it seems he is the only one who realises this.

It was a fairly entertaining zombie-Groundhog-Day mash-up. The characters are fairly generic but the plot itself was quite cleverly done, I did have a couple of issues with it however. First of all, the false rape allegation plot device - I am well aware that false allegations happen, but I think it is too much of a 'hot button' topic to be used in this manner. The second is the spelling/grammatical errors or missing/incorrect words issues which crop up now and again. They are not too frequent but enough to be noticeable and it really needs another editing. I did like it enough to plan to read the sequel. ( )

I have to admit that Mr. Lain Rob Wright's book, Seasick: A Zombie Horror Novel, pulled me in from the very start and had me totally engrossed in the story until I thought there was a major error because pages of text from earlier were repeated ver Badin. After skimming ahead, I discovered that each day was getting reset at midnight and the main character, Police Officer Jack Wardsley, was getting another opportunity to relive the day before - aka the movie, "Groundhog Day".

As the plot continued to roll out, readers learn that Jack must find a way to prevent the zombie pandemic from reaching the mainland and only he can make changes during his daily reruns. Everybody else has no memory of the preceding day and relive the day as if it were a new day. However, every day ends the same, people turn into zombies just after 8:00 pm and ravage the ship until midnight, killing everyone in sight..

This is the first zombie mystery that I've read. What triggered the pandemic? Was it an act of God? Why? How does Jack stop it? During his quest to solve the problem, Jack discovers three other passengers on board who are not impacted by the daily reset. Why? Can they help? Does he succeed? All wonderful questions that will be answered throughout the rest of the book. Highly recommended!
