Katie makes some pretty fantastic heroines. This one reminds me of what I imagine Katie is like, based on her updates on Facebook. She has a note in the front of the book about how the support of her friends and family got her through the death of her husband. With that on the forefront of my mind, I read the book as a mourning wife might, and saw why this book might have been cathartic to write. If you could do over even one second, how might your life be different now? ( )

Out of work, broke and in possession of a much beloved but very beat down Volkswagen beetle, the heroine is run off a countryside road by a speeding car and ends up in the ditch. There, in her moment of need, a God comes to save her. Well, maybe not a God but certainly an underwear model. The man helps her to the nearest tow truck and after talking a bit about this and that, he offers her a job until she can save up enough money to fix her car. Left with little options she takes up his offer and travels high into the mountain forest to where his family have set up camp in the caravans. There she meets the old woman who leads the strange and most unwelcoming family and the heroine takes up position as the nanny for a much beloved group of Pug dogs. On one of their many walks she meets the hero. She accuses him to trying to scare her, he accuses her of stealing the old woman's dogs and they part ways after a string of banter. Much to the heroines surprise, the strange stumbles into her tent one night, stabbed and looking for help. She doesn't hesitate to hide him because that's just the type of woman she is. The hero is one of the Watch, the police force for the supernatural world and he's on the case of a suspected murderer and it just so happens the trail leads him to one of his own family. Outcast for being a half blood, born of an immortal father and a human mother, he is not welcomed among his own kind but he's not entirely bitter. He's not seeking revenge against them but rather just doing his job. The heroine is a very unwelcoming but intriguing complication to say the least. She is nothing like any other woman he's ever meet. She has an amazing ability to make him smile and her verbal diarrhea is charming. He himself is an odd ball as well, what with his comical no nonsense demeanor that inspires nothing but nonsense to his one motor mouth and old world manner of speaking. Together they make a very very strange paring but one that seems like a match made in heaven. Both have a tendency to let anything inside their heads fly out of their mouths without much filter and their conversations were hilarious and bizarre. I laughed out loud more than once and either something the heroine said or reading one of their many banter sessions about nothing at all. I thought is a very funny story and I wickedly entertained. I loved the heroine though she was so damn frustrating at time but i found her charming however naïve. Cool storyline with a premise that I haven't read before so big ups to the MacAlister for finding something unique. ( )

Magic and cutesy dialogue written at a fourth-grade reading level with a large helping of fun and friendly sex. Also puppies. ( )

This book was full of laughter from beginning to end. If Kiya were real, she'd be an awesome friend!!! Kiya always assumed she was lucky to have survived being struck by lightning twice. It's not until she meets Peter that she learns of her heritage of a Traveler which is someone who can steal time. She soon learns there is a Traveler who is killing mortals and Peter suspects it's someone from his estranged family, the head of the family who just happens to be Kiya's boss and owner of the pugs she is playing nanny to. Kiya's word choices and actions send Peter for a tail spin but over time, he finds himself being charmed by this unique woman. Will the culprit be found out before more mortals turn up dead and will Kiya and Peter give into their obvious attraction to each other? Also, who the heck is Sunil, what's with the ball of light and why does he speak like someone from India? You'll have to read this book to find out! Be prepared to suddenly burst out laughing. ( )
