One approaches this book with a great deal of excitement because of the emphasis of Common Core to integrate nonfiction into content areas. Alas, the book is a disappointment. The authors have assembled projects that young people can do under various common science topics. On the opening page, they provide the information about two trade books they recommend, then they never mention them again. The balance of the topic is about the project. We were neither impressed by the books recommended or the projects supposedly based on those titles. The need to integrate the reading of both literature and informational books into science is a topic that many are trying to grapple with. We are looking for better and better ideas for doing so. Skip this one as we all look for other resources. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
If you like the popular "Teaching Science Through Trade Books" columns in NSTA's journal Science and Children, or if you've become enamored of the award-winning Picture-Perfect Science Lessons series, you'll love this new collection. It's based on the same time-saving concept: By using children's books to pique students' interest, you can combine science teaching with reading instruction in an engaging and effective way.
