"Liberty Meadows" is a congenial, sometimes funny, often frustrating comic strip about an animal rescue preserve staffed by nebbish veterinarian Frank, who is sort-of secretly in love with the gorgeous Brandy, an animal psychologist, and is inhabited by a variety of talking animals who get into various hijinks. I've never been particularly impressed by the writing; the draw of "Liberty Meadows" is the artwork, particularly Frank Cho's good-girl artwork when he draws Brandy and others. This is a collection of the first few years of the Sunday strips. The strips are improved by the extra space to expand upon the humor, and of course there's more space for that beautiful artwork. "Liberty Meadows" could have been a great strip if Cho had just gotten a good writer and done what he does best -- draw. ( )
