FROM THE AUTHOR OF THE SUNDAY TIMES NUMBER ONE BESTSELLER THE CALLER. 'Good job you didn't turn on the lights ...' A student nurse has the shock of her life when she discovers her patient, prosecutor Derek Nicholson, brutally murdered in his bed. The act seems senseless - Nicholson was terminally ill with only weeks to live. But what most shocks Detective Robert Hunter of the Los Angeles Robbery Homicide Division is the calling card the killer left behind. For Hunter, there is no doubt that the killer is trying to communicate with the police, but the method is unlike anything he's ever seen before. And what could the hidden message be? Just as Hunter and his partner Garcia reckon they've found a lead, a new body is found - and a new calling card. But with no apparent link between the first and second victims, all the progress they've made so far goes out of the window. Pushed into an uncomfortable alliance with confident investigator Alice Beaumont, Hunter must race to put together the pieces of the puzzle . . . before the Death Sculptor puts the final touches to his masterpiece. Praise for Chris Carter: 'A touch of Patricia Cornwell about Chris Carter's plotting' Mail on Sunday 'Gripping . . . not for the squeamish' Heat 'A page-turner' Express… (más)

So, Robert Hunter, the expert for really violent murders, really shines in this book. I felt more connected to him and his partner than the previous books, but that may just be familiarity. But I really think he seemed a bit more human in this book.

The murders were especially brutal. The motives seemed to be obviously to cause as much pain as possible, either physical or psychological, and no attempt at robbery or anything else to cover it up. The killer was trying to communicate something to the public, but it took a great bit of work to figure it out.

There were some interesting characters in this book, Besides Hunter and his partner, there was a woman who worked for the DA, who went to the same school for the gifted as Hunter, and knew him there. She was really good at computer research. The DA was a total jerk, though, and I don't know if I could have worked for him. Hunter shows great restraint in not pushing back.

The ending was a pretty good surprise, and it all made sense. ( )

Have no words whatsoever for this one, for there's no way I can describe this novel and do it justice it deserves, for Chris Carter did it again, and boy he did it good, no, he did it amazingly great, for Robert Hunter is at his best in this novel and so is his partner who helps him solve the most sickest and most monstrous of crimes. Robert truly gives his best in this one, and the mystery behind the murders is quite addictive to read, for you truly want to find out, learn, and discover who is the actual monster in this novel and why is that monster such a monster capable of doing such horrific crimes. I am not that big on criminology or criminal profiling, but even I can understand that Chris Carter is using pretty much all of the knowledge he's learned by studying criminology, which makes this novel a truly worthwhile read and highly recommendable for anyone who's into such stuff and wants to delve into the psyche of the criminal mind. If you are into such stuff, get yourself this book or better yet start this series from the beginning and enjoy the craziest roller coaster ride. No further words are needed. ( )

Chris Carter really knows his serial killers. In this fourth Robert Hunter installment, the killer is not only extremely violent, but creative as well. The killer not only tortures the victims, but then cuts apart the bodies and shapes those parts into a work of art that tells a story. Hunter must solve the clues left by the killer in time to save the last victim. It is a twisted tale that really makes the reader wonder what will happen next. On to my next Carter book! ( )

This is the 4th book in the Robert Hunter series which follows the investigations of a unique squad of the Los Angeles Police Dept. Just as I thought Chris Carter couldn’t get any more twisted and gruesome along comes this addition to the series...The Death Sculptor. The serial killer is the stuff of nightmares which challenges all of Robert Hunter and Carlos Garcia's skills. An added plus for the book is that the reader uncovers a little bit more about Robert’s past...and we are introduced to Alice who is brought in to assist the team in tracking down this killer. The plot line was a little unbelievable, although I'm sure there is some evil piece of humanity out there that probably could accomplish this. At any rate it makes for a disturbing but entertaining police procedural. I look forward to reading the next book in the series. ( )
