Evan Miller, a freelance crime reporter, has lived the life of a loner while working in Los Angeles. An aunt he hasn't seen in years has left him her house and the guardianship of her grandson, Joseph. So when he upsets some corrupt and powerful men in the Los Angeles Police Department with his reporting, this small town of Settler's Ridge becomes the only place to go to hide. Now, Evan is living part-time with a talkative teenager in a neighborhood full of nosy AARP members. And, things are about to get worse. He finds a body floating in his pool and becomes a suspect while the police don't like his background. He will need to dust off his social skills to interrogate his neighbors and solve this murder himself.

A clever who-dun-it. Easy reading with a smoothly flowing pace. Characters who are similar to others I have met and liked before. ( )
