We first met Simon in the first three books of the series, when he was only a teenager. Well, he's not a kid anymore--ask Helen, she'll tell you. I've been really looking forward to Simon's story (And Cian, and Amber's and now for the story of all the MacCoinnich kids, which I sincerely hope will happen!) and it didn't disappoint.

I warn you - this is not going to be a well written, deep and through review. I'm not sure if I can even call it a review. Mostly because I find I don't know exactly what to say about this book. It's a good read and I enjoyed it and recommend it and the entire series as a whole, but I don't have a lot to say about it still.

Simon has become a highlander to the bone; kilt, muscles and protectiveness honed to perfection. It was really weird trying to compare the kid he was and the man he is now, but it was fun.

Helen fits Simon. As always, the females in this series are headstrong, smart and brave, and Helen is no exception.

Together, they made a really cute couple, and I loved the ending for them both. I'm so happy for them
For the first time, we get a book-centered villain. The first three books revolved around a single villain, but not this one. It makes me wonder whether each of the following books--and there are at least two others--will have a specif villain, or will we discover that everything connects?

I have to applaud Bybee for her fantastic, though a bit maddening, ending. I was completely shocked by it and it made me want to read the next book so badly it hurts.
Part of me wants to curse out loud for the pain she's putting me through. The other part thinks the ending was bloody brilliant. I am so going to enjoy the next book!

I have to wonder, seeing Simon and Helen and now Amber's situation whether this three-books of the series (4-6) will be the opposite from the first three. Instead of going to the past, we're going to go to the future? that'll be interesting.

So, this book is a four stars. Very fast and easy read, you'll find yourself turning the pages until suddenly there won't be anymore to read, and then you'll want to throw the book on a wall until you realize how bloody brilliant the ending is. ( )

Highland Shifter is the first book that I have read by Catherine Bybee, and I enjoyed it. This book kept me entertained and held my attention. I enjoy reading time travel historical romances, so I decided to give this one a try! Simon, the hero in the book is a Druid and can change forms at will. It does help that is a gentleman, sexy, a highlander and from Scotland (which I wish to visit one day). The heroine is stubborn, compassionate and falls in love with Simon (the hunky Druid). Helen is from the 21st century and she travels back to 15th century Scotland, where she meets Simon. Helen and Simon work together to find out who is trying to destroy his family and where Helen fits into it all.

There were a few things in the book that were a little unbelievable to me though. Like the hero changing into a wolf (which we have heard of the legends of werewolves), which I accepted (but don't believe). He also can change into a falcon (I excepted that even I don't believe it), but when he said he could change into a shark I rolled my eyes. Ms Bybee should have left the shark bit out of the story. I don't believe in time travel either, but the thought is exciting! Even after the shark deal I kept reading (yes I did).

This story was full of love, family, mystery and a little magic. It also has a few twist and turns that kept me interested. I usually prefer the heroine to be feisty and the hero to be a play little hard to get. I also like a little more conflict, but all in all this was a fun read that held my attention right up to the very end.

I realized after reading this book that there a 3 more before this one, about the MacConnich family. ( )

HIGHLAND SHIFTER, by Catherine Bybee, is a fantastic romance novel filled with time travel, intrigue, and lots of romance.

I hadn't read any of the MacCoinnich Time Travel series prior to this book but I have to say (unlike other books that claim to be "stand alone") I was never lost. But I do intend to go back and read the previous three books to get more of a background on these characters.

I really enjoyed this book. I liked the magical elements of the Druids and time travel. And the romance was right up my alley. Simon and Helen had an immediate connection that sucked me in right away. Outside of the romance, this book had a really good plot and I found myself racing to the end to see how this couple would come out of it.

I enjoyed my second book by Bybee (first was Wife By Wednesday, review HERE) and I am so excited to add more of her books to my TBR pile!!
