The edition I have is from 1972 and was written by Jane Werner Watson, Robert Switzer M.D. and J. Cotter Hershberg M.D. in conjunction with the Menninger Foundation. The idea of the story is to get kids comfortable with a visit to the dental office. An opening section addressed to parents discusses their role in oral care and what the medical/dental field recommends.

The information is still relevant, though I did laugh a bit at the line about the pretty-colored dental chair since the illustration in the edition I had colored the chair the sunset gold color of 1970s appliances--not a color I found particularly "pretty" personally. ( )
