Anne McCaffrey is the quintessential writer of fantasy books pertaining to dragons. These books are always wonderful, well written, and perfectly characterized. All of her series are great but the ones that take place on Pern are the best of all. A thoroughly fun and engaging read. ( )

I don't know exactly what was wrong with this book. I cannot put my finger on it. Many of the characters were familiar. The setting was new but not so unknown as to be bizarre. The clairvoyant was a twist but fit the story. The relationships were as expected. Maybe that's what made this not the par for a PERN tale. The suspense was low. If Todd continues the series this may be a link to new stories but didn't do much as a stand alone book. ( )

I have been putting this book off long enough. To be honest I was afraid that loosing Mrs. McCaffrey would be an end to this series. That may still be true. I have been reading these novels for ~15 years and I never thought they would end. Solid book that keeps the reader engaged and interested. I can see where there is a LOT of room to continue this fine universe. ( )
