On May 2, 2011, at 1:03 a.m. in Pakistan, a satellite uplink was sent from the town of Abbottabad crackling into the situation room of the White House in Washington, D.C.: "Geronimo, Echo, KIA." These words, spoken by a Navy SEAL, put paid to Osama bin Laden's three-decade-long career of terror. SEAL Target Geronimo is the story of Bin Laden's relentless hunters and how they took down the terrorist mastermind, told by Chuck Pfarrer, a former assault element commander of SEAL Team Six and author of the bestselling Warrior Soul: The Memoir of a Navy SEAL. After talking to members of the SEAL team involved in the raid, Pfarrer shares never-before-revealed details of the historic raid and the men who planned and conducted it in an exclusive boots-on-the-ground account of what happened during each minute of the mission--both inside the building and outside.… (más)

Well-presented summary of the factors leading to the killing of Osama bin Laden, the mastermind of 9/11. The author does a great job of summarizing the SRALs, they're training, some of their many successes including the Captain Philips episode, the Mideast quagmire, the Afghan war and the rise of bin Laden, up to the final mission that put the terrorist into a watery grave. There are also comments about Saddam's WMDs which the press is committed to saying don't exist despite their use in IEDs encountered by American troops. There's also convincing speculation about a protége who allegedly set up bin Laden. Excellent reading, very informative. ( )

Langweiliges Buch. geht nur zu ca. 1/3 Wirklich auf die Geschehnisse ein und schweift den rest langatmig durch die Geschichte der SEALs.
Der ganze überhebliche Heltenton im Buch ist unerträglich. ( )

Well written book. Author does his best to create a complete story based on information gathered from participants in both the hunt for UBL and the final mission. While the specifics do not match information in No Easy Day by Mark Owens, the general message is the same. A master terrorist was hunted down and terminated. This book had more specifics about types of equipment available to Seal Teams and what was used during the actual engagement. As an American I thank all participants for making the world a safer place. ( )

Well-written and fast-paced. I appreciated the space given to providing context about the SEALs and Osama bin Laden, and focusing less on breast-beating and the "skiet, skop & donner" aspects. Fascinating is the fact that SEAL Team Six apparently forms part of an almost autonomous military arm that seems to have a direct line to the US President. How much of the book is factual is open to question: I am dubious of the claims of Iraqi WMD finding their way to Al Qaeda. It reeks of an attempt at retrospective justification of the invasion of Iraq.

I recommend the book to those interested in special forces operations. ( )

Easy, fun, and opinionated read. I'm not sure how factual all information is. Much of the details about the Bin Laden raid I'd read before in current media. I enjoyed hearing about past raids led by SEALS and would have liked to have learned more details about how those experiences informed current SEAL work. Perhaps those details are in the author's other, more autobiographical work.

The author clearly has issues with the CIA. Again, I can't verify if this is accurate. Likewise, the author emphasizes that there were lots of chemical weapons and weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. The sole source I could find was Wikileaks. This is news to me and I would have liked more sourcing and details.

It's great to read accounts of the military from an insider's perspective. But these sometimes get mired in leftover politics and axes to grind. I can understand the desire to air frustrations, but I'd appreciate if these were kept in the footnotes and let the great work of the military and its brave men and women speak for itself.
