When a father and daughter moved into Fred's(the ghost) run down, seriously dusty and abandoned house Fred becomes quite alarmed! The family began to move and bring in new furniture and a huge stove. Oh wow! They are turning the ghost's abandoned house into a clean, non dusty restaurant. Fred has had enough with this so Fred decides that he wants to haunt the restaurant. But instead of turning people away, Fred's haunting draws people in. Fred gives up and decides to leave but accidentally bumps into Marie. She immediately introduces Fred to her father. Upon discovering that Fred was upset and leaving, Marie and Pierre suggested sharing the house. Marie made a room in the attic for Fred that was delightfully dusty and he could not resist. Every night Pierre would bring Fred his dainty puffs (New Orleans Beignets) for snack. They named the restaurant The Hungry Ghost. ( )

Oh course I love this book about a new Orleans' ghost. When Pierre and Marie move into 28 Rue Orleans to open a restaurant, Fred the ghost feels is home is ruined. After trying to scare Pierre and Marie into closing the restaurant, the three come to a compromise and live happily in harmony. ( )

The author put a creative twist on New Orleans' cuisine. Based on his experiences eating in the city the author used the Cajun and Creole food to create a cute story. The story is about a ghost that lives in a run down building. The ghost is content until a family turns the dump into a restaurant. The ghost tries to scare them out. The mysterious events the ghost causes is what the customers enjoy most. At the end they find a way to make everyone happy. My favorite part is when the owner calls beignets "ghost puffs". I would read this to my class at anytime. It is super cute and puts a cute twist on our New Orleans' culture. ( )
