A quick, interesting read with a visually appealing format that may prompt some of my reluctant readers to actually read to learn. Included: interesting, quick "true stories" of survival, handy tips for surviving in all types of emergencies without too much detail, and vivid photographs & useful illustrations to engage the reader. I took the quiz at the end a week after reading to see if I retained any of the tips/strategies, and it turns out I did (enough to pass a multiple choice test). However, I think that in real life, I'll have forgotten all of it. It was just too brief of a course for me to really learn anything unless I paired my book experience with real outdoors experience, but after reading about people sawing their arm off, eating spiders to survive, and people ending a vacation with their head clamped between the jaws of a cougar, who wants to give it a try? ( )
