I can remember listening to Father Baldi mysteries when they were serialised on radio 4 many years ago, and so it was with interest that I requested this item from Vine. And I wasn’t disappointed. These two delightful little dramas kept me company while I mowed the lawn yesterday afternoon.
Yes the story lines are trivial – well they are only 45 minutes long. And yes, “gentle” is a good way to describe them – I agree with other reviewers that “thrilling mysteries” is overstating the case a little. However, the characterisations are really good, and the teasing interplay between Baldi and female detective Tina Mahon is just lovely.
The radio production is brilliant, as you would expect from the BBC, with great acting throughout, and good sound quality with convincing background detail. ( )
