So I wanted to read this because I have been saying for years that Gerald Lund is the best writer of LDS fiction and wanted to make sure.
I was right. He is.
That being said, Tennis Shoes wasn't awful. It just crossed a few lines I wasn't too comfortable with. I don't the the whole idea is sacrilegious I just prefer people not creating personalities for people for whom I already have my own pre-determined opinions.
It was definitely a "Utah" book.
On the plus side, he is much funnier than Lund. His voice is unique, and I can see the appeal to the younger generation.

It all starts with a boy named Jamie, but he likes to be called Jim. Jim enjoys behaving badly. He meets this guy named Garth and at first Jim doesn't like him but they soon become good friends. They decide to go on this quest in the mountains to see if they can find clues about his secret they have. One morning Jenifer, Jim's little sister, decides to come along. The three of them go ove the fence and into the cave of a mountain and start to look for clues. There were so many dead ends, but Jenifer finds a way. They follow her and have no idea where they ended up. They came to this land and were clueless. They meet the Lamamnites first, but Garth and Jim were able to escape and they found some Nephites. They have to go to war with the Lamanites and Garth goes one way and Jim the other. With Captain Teancum and Jim, the rescue Jenifer and Garth reunited with them and they return home saftly.

I really enjoyed reading this book. It was so interesting and cool to me. It was weird when Garth, Jim and Jenfier returned home after about two months, but their parents said they have been gone for only one day. I also like it because it it about my religion and it is awesome. I would want to meet all of the great people that the three friends met, but not when war was going on. It was also sad when Captain Teanim's son died from a Lamanite. I can't wait to read the second book and see what kind of adventure they go on next! ( )

The narator of this book is a 13 year old boy named Jim. The mane characters of this story are Jim, Garth and Jenny. This story is about these three characters who find a cave. They When they go into the cave they find out that this cave transports you into a different time. Garth, Jim and Jenny have to find a way to get back to modern day time, and get back home. ( )

A classic mormon fantasy series - what would it be like to live among the Nephites? It was fun to see little tie-ins to scripture accounts and to watch the characters grow in their understanding of the gospel. Very enjoyable! ( )
