As I've read some of these DC universe spanning stories so many of them just seem too grand. It's all ginormous super villains, planet ending. This TPB is different, and yeah, this is Superman, so there has to be some of that, but there can also be some more human story lines. And boy oh boy does this TPB have those story lines. I loved it. Heck, even Lois was brought down from 'The Martin's Attic', and she even sorta got her own story during one of the issues. (There can never bee too much Lois Lane) Here's hoping Volume 2 is as good as Volume 1 was. An interesting set of Superman stories, based on a premise that makes me want to just slap Superman silly, even though it'd break my hand. At a press conference, a recently widowed woman lays a big ol' guilt trip on Superman because her husband died of an inoperable brain tumor, which Superman could have probably killed with his heat vision. Instead, he was off saving some alien planet or some such thing, instead of making himself a living MediVac; just line up all the world's sick people and I'll devote my every waking hour (and does Superman even need to sleep?) to fixing what ails them, never mind that I've got not one, but two identities to maintain. Anyway, this is the attitude that Superman cops; he always was a bit of a sucker for a guilt trip. So he decides to walk the country, getting to know the people he protects on their level, rather than flying around trying to find wrongs to right. Like I said, some intriguing stories follow, but I do find Supies' willingness to take on everybody's burdens, and all the guilt he feels when he can't solve all of our problems, a bit wearying. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña
Author J. Michael Straczynski picks up the saga after the devastating events of WAR OF THE SUPERMEN. Superman looks to reconnect with the roots of his battle for Truth, Justice and the American Way. "Grounded" begins as Superman visits Philadelphia-on foot-then continues in a small town in Ohio where, as in many towns, a number of its residents are from other places. But when the Man of Steel discovers that there are also a number of residents secretly from other worlds, he unravels a mystery that may have grave consequences for Earth.
