Spirited Away is among my favorite movies. This manga, is based on the movie, and all of the images are clips from the movie. The story is about a girl who finds herself as she tries to save her parents, who were turned into pigs, from the spirit world. I am not deeply versed in Japanese lore, but the aspects of the spirit world are fantastic! The photos, like the movie, are breathtaking, while I still prefer the movie over this manga inspired book its still a great read. ( )

Spirited Away takes the reader on a journey through Chihiro's eyes. Her and her parents are moving to a new house when they come upon a magical/spiritual place where her parents turn into pigs and Chihiro is taken prisoner. In order for her to rescue her parents and escape, she must trust her only friend Haku, to lead her to freedom. This is a wonderful story full of spirits and magic. People of all ages can enjoy this enchanting story and get lost in it. The character development and the story line are so remarkable that the reader can't help but lose themselves to the story. This is a great series to read alone and share with others. It could even be read together in class and then hold a discussion on. There are many opportunities to discuss moral and ethical dilemma's that Chihiro is going through which could be a topic for discussion. ( )

I enjoyed the illustration, they were wonderful and the spacing made it feel like an actual graphic movie. Also, the drawings showed off the culture of Japan. The story is really interesting.

Tells the story of a little girl getting thrown into another dimension without her parents and meets a cute boy who protects her. ( )

I think I can understand why I never read a manga until now. I love the story of this because I saw the movie, but I can't seem to focus on the manga form. I really couldn't figure out why. I read through it and I feel like I understand it enough to continue on with the other volumes, but I just wasn't entertained. The art was fine, black and white was never very interesting to me.

This book is about a girl named Chihiro who starts off sad because her family and her moved away. While her father is trying to find their new home, they come across a red building which they find out it was part of an amusement park. As they travel through the building, they find it was an amusement park but no people were around. Soon the parents find tons of food and began eating for they were hungry. Chihiro decided to go and investigate another part of the park. Soon she runs into a boy who tells her to leave before the night comes. Scared, she runs back to her parents and finds that they had turned into fat pigs. After she runs away and is trying to find a way out, she begins to fade away but with the help of the boy before, she stops fading and follows his directions. Once they found a hiding place, he tells the girl to find a man for a job before disappearing. As she goes to find the man, the boy goes to Yubaba, the one who's after Chihiro.

This book was wierd at first, but it got better as I read it. There are many surprises in this book that you wouldn't expect in a regular book. I enjoyed the artwork very much. It looked like a television show as I read it.

This is a good book to read to kids if there's a new kid in class who just moved. This is also good for Halloween for when the shadows in the book show up dressed in costumes.
