Takeshita Demons – One for the kids who need to graduate from Manga comics, and with a Japanese heroine for the girls. Miku has moved from Japan to England and her parents have become slack at keeping the “old ways” that prevent the demons from attacking their home because they are in a new country and believe these rules don’t apply. But Miku knows better and suddenly discovers her relief teacher is not all she seems to be. Funny, quirky with a touch of horror that kids will love. sin reseñas | añadir una reseña

Miku Takeshita and her family have moved from Japan to live in the UK, but unfortunately the family's enemy demons have followed themâ?¿ Miku knows she's in trouble when her new supply teacher turns out to be a Nukekubi - a bloodthirsty demon who can turn into a flying head and whose favourite snack is children. That night, in a raging snowstorm, Miku's little brother Kazu is kidnapped by the demons, and then it's up to Miku and her friend Cait to get him back. The girls break into their snow-locked school, confronting the dragon-like Woman of the Wet, and outwitting the faceless Nopera-bo. At last they come face to face with the Nukekubi itself - but will they be in time to save Kazu? The winner of the first Frances Lincoln Diverse Voices Award, this is the first of a new trilogy, Takeshita Demons, with the second, Takeshita Demons: The Filth-Licker due to be published in 2011 and Takeshita Demons: Monster Matsuri in 2012. It is a fast read and just enough scare to appeal to a middle school reader who want to read something scary. It is good to see that there is a heroine rather than a hero that saves the day. She and Cait are clever and are able to overcome their fear to save Kazu and get rid of the horrifying demon who can separate its head from its body.
There are a few illustrations and interesting information about spirits and demons that are of Japanese origin. This is book one in a trilogy the second one is Filth Licker. If you have readers who want scary novels and want something they can read quickly, this will be the trilogy for them. ( )
