Agnes is the light of her parents eyes, and sole daughter of Saxegård, one of the noble houses of the Swedish countryside. At the gates of Church one sunday, she is attacked and cursed by an unknown man, a beggar, and Agnes is haunted by his words. What will they mean for her future?

Agnes är sina föräldrars ögonsten, och enda dotter på Saxegård, en herrgård på svenska landsbygden. På kyrkbacken en söndag blir hon utsatt för en förbannelse av en okänd man, en tiggare, och Agnes ställer sig ständigt frågan vad tiggaren kommer att få för betydelse i framtiden.

Men då Agnes möter Alexander Falk, godsägare på Kullagård, och han ber om hennes hand, då glömmer hon allt annat.
