- From 1997-2013 the Durham Public Library operated in a tiny space in the Mill Plaza after separating from the nearby University of New Hampshire library. Even in that space, the library was a hub for the community, a summer gathering place for children in the summer reading program and an important access point for community information. Last year, construction was completed on a new, beautiful new, free-standing library that has seen increased circulation, membership and community use. There is plenty of space for sitting and browsing and a large children's area with spaces for activities, story times and a room for teens complete with a video gaming system.
