Okay, I read Dennis Lehane's Shutter Island a couple of years ago, mostly based on multiple recommendations promising me a "surprising twist no one will see coming." I love books with surprising twists at the end...especially when I don't see them coming yet find they make perfect sense when you go back an look at the evidence. I felt that Shutter Island mostly delivered on this promise even if I was hyper-aware of a coming twist. However, once it was out there, that was it.

As we know (because this is a spoiler zone so anyone reading this should already have read it) that Teddy Daniels thinks he's investigating the disappearance of an inmate only to come to the realization that HE is actually the patient and the whole investigation is an elaborate form of psycho-therapy. And that's the sad thing about twists...once it's out there, the suspense is over and you can never really go back to that time where you had no idea what was about to happen.

Now there's a movie version out there and I'm wondering if anyone who has read the book is interested in seeing the movie. I'd actually love to see it on the big screen but I feel I won't get as much enjoyment out of knowing how it's going to end.

So I guess that's my questions...will you see the movie? Do you think you can still enjoy it? Did you even like the ending of the book or were you not fooled for one second? I'd love to know :)

I almost always read books before seeing the movies, I don't think it makes the movie any less enjoyable. I didn't particularly like the ending because I had figured it out long before I reached the end, but I still enjoyed the story overall and I'd love to see how it plays out on screen.
