Fans of Vasily Grossman's LIFE AND FATE should know that the Lincoln Center Festival will be presenting a Russian theatrical adaptation of the novel from July 21-26 in New York City. It is by the Maly Drama Theatre of St. Petersburg and will have English subtitles.

Very interesting. From the description it sounds like the production is focusing on one of the linked stories within the broad panorama of the book, which is probably the only way to deal with it theatrically.

I just remembered that there is a film of one of the most powerful sections of the novel, that of Anna Semyonova writing a letter to Viktor about her last days in Berdichev as the Nazis are rounding up the Jews in her ghetto. It's called "The Last Letter," was directed by Frederic Wiseman and Semyonova is played by a French actriess, Catherine Samie.
