You might want to add Don Brown also. He wrote the Navy Justice Series, a trilogy. All three novels are available in paperback.

This is a pretty large list.
Perhaps we should start some discussion about some of them.
David Weber and John Ringo in the Empire of Man which you recommend. What we have in the initial books, and I understand that there are to be at least one more, is a retelling of some classic battles. Our heroes encounter a pre-technological alien society that they bring together so that they can march to the only starport and try and get off the world. They have to fight their way across the world to do so.
A four book series so far, three of which are the trek across planet, possibly should have had two books dealing with the trek across the planet.

Just received FLARE PATH, a novel of the North Atlantic Bomber Patrol (1944) by Tod Claymore. Well, this is a well crafted novel with good dialogue, just enough action and a happy ending. It actually makes one feel that it's possible to survive the War even when being in Harms Way from the beginning. The protagonist not only survives being shot down in mid-Atlantic in poor weather but is actually rescued AFTER the first Rescue aircraft has to leave, and he gets the girl and a promotion as well. The author even manages to make this believable. I have heard that once an aircraft loses sight of a raft on the ocean, it is unlikely that it will ever be seen again. The ocean is WAY too big. By the way, the list above is quite useful at my local Library. Thanks.

I would recommend John Dalmas and Gordon Dickson, they're great.
