How do you think the new author did with the book? Did you spot any differences to previous books?

I had only read one other so not really qualified to judge. I did get the impression that he was more enthused by technology than characters but his plotting seemed as good as the last one I read.

Overall he did quite well, but as Maura said he focused much more on the technology and brought in a lot of updated technology, but do feel we lost some of the characterisation. Also it all seemed about Juan rather than the team and I missed the role parts in the book with this one. Be interested to see if the next book in the series changes this.

I thought he brought some interesting technology to the mix, like the Dazzler, etc. But I felt like there the characters were very two dimensional. Juan thought he was John Wick throughout the story. Even stretching my imagination I found it difficult to believe he escaped so many dangerous situations.

>4 Olivermagnus: I agree, he made Juan into superman!

I didn’t really like the book as much as the original Cussler books. I think the voice of the author was very different than what we were used to.

All of the above. Plus, Maden is very fond of his similes, overly so, I felt.
