Welcome to MysteryKIT planning thread. We read mysteries of all kinds. If you are interested in hosting MysteryKIT in 2024, please post in this planning thread. Months and topics are up for grabs now, I will update below. The host generally posts the new topic around the 15th of the previous month.

For those new to the idea, the host selects the mystery topic or genre for their month, such as noir/hardboiled, cozy, historical, golden age, locked room, amateur sleuths, classic mysteries, and so on. Then the host creates the thread of the month where participants can comment or post their own reading selections, questions, or ideas. The host also posts suggestions or titles to help participants choose their reading selections.

January—short story mysteries—Tess_W
February—true unsolved mysteries—mstrust
March—historical—Robertgreaves
April--series--DeltaQueen50
May—golden age—JayneCM
June—authors new to you—NinieB
July—cross genre mysteries—antqueen
August—amateurs—Christina_reads
September—upstairs/downstairs—MissBrangwen
October--not too scary mysteries--LadyoftheLodge
November--noir--Ish63

I would like to host in November- maybe noir? Unless that’s too broad of a topic/genre.

>4 lsh63: That is fine, thanks! I do not think our topics are ever too broad.

I'll probably jump in to host, but I'll wait to see what else is taken. I'm also not good at coming up with themes, so I will likely need to choose from a list.

ETA: I'll check previous years for ideas.

I have been trying to think of a new idea and will take September with the topic of "Upstairs, downstairs". Mysteries involving royalty or aristocracy, or their staff. You could also adapt this to include today's stars and mega rich people and those who work for them, so you could also read some modern thrillers and police procedurals featuring those characters.

I entered myself for October, so we are now complete! I think that is a record time to get set up. Thanks to all who volunteered to host a month. We will have a year of fun and interesting reading to look forward to.

This one and RandomKIT (at that time) were the two I couldn't find.

Ok, I'm going to create the wiki. Thought I'd better post so we don't end up with multiple people doing it at the same time!
