can't my catalogue back into "preferred/ normal/usual order

I was perusing features - hitherto, unexplored, by me.

my typical arrangement has the books entered most recently at the top, descending in that fashion, such that the oldest entered books are the first ones ever entered, years ago.

i noticed below the tab for "tags" - was one called genres. for whatever reason, my catalogue order seems stuck on a genre that i can only presume features children's fiction. i would like it to return to previous order, but cannot seem to figure out how that is done.

You can click the header of any column to sort by that column. If you click it and it's in the wrong direction (e.g. oldest books on top), click it again to flip.

You can also click the little button at the top with the blue arrows pointing up and down to sort by any field, even those that aren't currently showing

the first suggestion didn't work, but the second seems to have.

any explanations as to why clicking on genre switched things?

I remember also hitting that button, then scrambling about, worrying I had lost my preferred setup.

By default our catalogue is set to "List" mode (one of the leftmost buttons lit up blue in the below image). Hitting the "Tags" button, or going to any of the sub-options in that button such as "Genre" takes it out of "List" mode.

It's not instinctive to know that. But if you do any more exploring, then hitting "List" should return you out of the alternate display mode.

There's information in the help/wiki about what all the other options show:
